Upcoming construction
(NOTE: all schedules are subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances):
When traveling in and near the construction areas, it is very important to use additional caution and be aware of work crews, flaggers, traffic control and special signage, and heavy equipment.
- All areas: tree and fence removal/construction fence installation continuing into late July. Potholing (small excavations in the roadway to identify utility locations) continuing into late July.
- Jenes Lane to the north access to Piner High School
- Northbound: underground and surface work continuing through late December.
- Southbound: shoulder demolition continuing through late July. Underground and surface work anticipated to begin in late July, continuing through August.
- Wishing Well Way to Jenes Lane
- Northbound: subgrade work is underway. Other underground and surface work anticipated take place through mid-August.
- Southbound underground and surface work anticipated to begin in mid-August
- North Piner High School access to Quail Hollow Drive.
- Northbound: shoulder demolition expected to begin in late July, followed by underground and surface work continuing into August. Other work is anticipated to continue into December.
- Quail Hollow Drive to Piner Road
- Northbound: shoulder demolition and underground/surface work starting early August, continuing through August with other work continuing into December.
- Southbound: underground work anticipated to begin in early August, continuing through October
- Appletree Drive to Wishing Well Lane
- Northbound: underground and surface work begins late July, continuing into September.
- Southbound: retaining wall installation is expected to get underway mid-July, continuing into late August. Other underground and surface work is anticipated to continue into late September.
- Guerneville Road to Appletree Drive
- Northbound: underground and surface work expected to begin in early August, continuing through October
Piner High School bus stop and access
As of early July, the northbound bus stop at Piner High School has been temporarily taken out of service, for an estimated six-to-eight weeks. A new, temporary bus stop has been installed just north of the main entrance to Piner High School. Once certain work elements at the old bus stop location are completed, the bus stop will be relocated back to its former spot. For general bus service information please visit Santa Rosa CityBus.
Project overview and construction notes
This project will widen, reconstruct, and rehabilitate one mile of Fulton Road between Guerneville Road and Piner Road, transforming it into an updated, four-lane regional/arterial street, as well as provide many other improvements. Benefits to the community include improved traffic/travel circulation, safety, and overall connectivity, enhanced sidewalks, ADA accessibility compliance, and bike lanes. Also included are drainage infrastructure and permeable landscaping, planters, and swales for improved stormwater filtering and drainage, plus enhanced aesthetics with drought-tolerant median and roadside plantings.
As with all large construction projects, there will be unavoidable disruptions to nearby neighbors and to motorists traveling in the area – we apologize in advance for noise, dust, lane closures, traffic delays, and any other impacts or inconveniences. When driving, walking, or biking in the area, always be aware of construction crews and equipment, flaggers, special signage, slower traffic, and rough roadway. Use an alternate route if possible, and allow for additional time to get to and from your destination.
Access to driveways in the project area will be maintained; however, there will be times when excavation or paving work will temporarily limit access, potentially up to several hours. Trash/recycling collection, package and mail delivery, bus service, and public safety vehicles will be accommodated. As needed, mailboxes which are within the work zone directly on Fulton Road are being removed/relocated closer to the property, out of the project footprint. This will take place as the project proceeds, and crews will make every effort to notify residents one-to-two days prior to the necessary relocation.
Overall project schedule
The project is expected to continue for approximately 18 – 24 months. Please note that this schedule is subject to change depending on weather, unanticipated circumstances, and seasonal access restrictions to creek areas. Work will typically take place 7 am to 7 pm Monday through Friday. On occasion, if deemed necessary and as approved by the City, periodic night work would be from 8:30 pm to 5:00 am. Prior notice will be given for night work, and if periodic weekend work is needed.
