Fulton Road Improvements Project getting underway next week
Work is anticipated to begin next week on the Fulton Road Improvements Project. This project will widen, reconstruct, and rehabilitate one mile of Fulton Road between Guerneville Road and Piner Road, transforming it into an updated, four-lane regional/arterial street, as well as provide many other improvements.

Benefits include improved circulation, safety, and overall connectivity, enhanced sidewalks, ADA accessibility compliance, and bike lanes. Drainage infrastructure and permeable landscaping, planters, and swales for improved stormwater filtering and drainage are included, plus enhanced aesthetics with drought-tolerant median and roadside plantings.

Project schedule (NOTE – all schedules are subject to change due to unanticipated circumstances or weather):
The contractor for this project, Ghilotti Bros., has received the notice to proceed, and initial work is scheduled to get underway on June 20 with potholing (small excavations in the roadway to identify locations of various utilities and gain other information), construction fence installation, and other preparation work.

The week of June 27, tree removal and fence removal to allow for widening of Fulton Road is anticipated to begin, and will continue along the full length of the project (fence removal is per prior agreements with adjacent property owners). Trees will be replaced. Also the week of June 27, some demolition of Fulton Road shoulder areas from Jenes Lane to the north access to Piner High School is expected to take place.

Construction notes
As with all large construction projects, there will be unavoidable disruptions to nearby neighbors and to motorists traveling in the area – we apologize in advance for noise, dust, lane closures, traffic delays, and any other impacts or inconveniences. When driving, walking, or biking in the area, always be aware of construction crews and equipment, flaggers, special signage, slower traffic, and rough roadway. Use an alternate route if possible, and allow for additional time to get to and from your destination.

Access to driveways in the project area will be maintained; however, there will be times when excavation or paving work will temporarily limit access, potentially up to several hours. Trash/recycling collection, package and mail delivery, bus service, and public safety vehicles will be accommodated. As needed, mailboxes which are within the work zone directly on Fulton Road will be removed/relocated closer to the property, out of the project footprint. This will take place as the project proceeds, and crews will make every effort to notify residents one-to-two days prior to the necessary relocation.
